New look for the NWU Institutional Repository

The NWU Institutional Repository (or NWU-IR in short) which runs on the open source DSpace software is home to much of the intellectual output of the NWU including conference papers, electronic theses and dissertations and published research articles. The content on the NWU-IR is regularly index by popular web search engines and the repository is registered with various Open Access portals and directories, all with the aim of promoting visibility and access to NWU outputs.

Recently the NWU-IR underwent a much needed maintenance upgrade and received a user interface overhaul in the process. The Information Systems Section of the Potchefstroom campus Library upgraded the DSpace software to the latest version which includes several bug-fixes and new features including partial integration with ORCID identifiers. A new responsive user interface was also implemented during this upgrade which means the NWU-IR is smartphone and tablet friendly and will scale to whichever device it is used on – similar to the NWU Libraries home page. A color palette which blends more smoothly with other library pages was also used to give a unified ‘look and feel’ across library pages.

Please feel free to give feedback on our repository.
