North West University Mafikeng Campus Library staff attended LIASA North West seminar at Rustenburg Primary School on 08 June 2016.
THEME: ”The Library Ecosystem: Maximising the collaboration and access to information for the marginalised LIS sub-sectors”.
The purpose of the seminar :
-To raise awareness for the Library and Information Services (LIS) Transformation Charter
– To explore strategies for the implementation of the proposed ecosystem in the Charter, and
– To ensure implementation of recommendations from the Charter.
Ms Ina Smith presentation focused on Exploring the role of technology in support of the ecosystem approach: Use of technology towards an equal, a reading, an informed and a literate nation. Ms Smith informed the members that libraries must market their initiatives and take the services to the people. She also highlighted that librarians must contribute to the nation by making information available to people and encourage collaborative approach among various types of libraries to focus on access to information for all users.
